Note:

how short the flat part of the roof is (the top part) on the F10, and how sloping the windshield is, and the rear glass as well;

how short the front overhang is;

how the car's wheelbase size has increased;

how upright / flat the nose is;

how short the rear side windows are;

how curvy the lower character line (above side skirt) is (very Audi-like).

Very sporty appearence. Nothing like upcoming E-class. I guess the appearances of F10 vs W212 will be very similar to E39 vs W210.

Agreed Eni.

I noticed with BMW prototype's, the fuel cap gives a pretty good guide as to the surfacing of the entire car- since it's only one of the few parts of the bodywork that's fully exposed.

Notice how deep and sculptural the body will be. One question is: will it have a single continuous character line like a 3er? or will it have an interrupted charater line that emphasises the rear wheels like the Concept CS?

As for the upcomming E-Klasse, it's not suppose to be sporty-looking. The upcomming CLS will fill that role.

Look at the comparison of the E39, E60 and F10 made by Eni above, and take note of this line here:

This will be one important car and I guess BMW have no plans on letting the plagiarising competition get any forehand information regarding design elements and details. Just look at the camouflage, almost nothing is revealed.

Re: 2010 BMW 5er (F10): spy pics & info

For the original E34 programme BMW were determined to outclass the then current W124 series E-Klasse with Coupe and Cabrio versions of the E34 - To which these days still lie crated in BMW's secret prototype warehouse somewhere in Munich.

From earlier reports it looks like this might make a return as I have seen documents stating that the positioning of the next 6er models which in current form is BMW's top Coupe. As BMW are looking at what gaps need filled in regards to models based off a same cost effective platform.

Although the 5er will feature additional models such as the F5 Progressive Activity Sedan , Alongside the traditional Sedan and Touring , BMW also have plans for a Progressive Activity Coupe - A high tech modern Shooting Brake , with a dynamically sloping roofline , shallow glasshouse, single rear door and split tailgate like the X5. Early indications show the 5er F01 to be the most dynamic 5er model ever and this is a route BMW are definetely keen to follow to counteract the response to the upcoming E-Klasse. The new Platform is said to be an excellent base for alternative BMW models and therefore could form the base for the premium segment Z-Roadster.

Yep ... The coupe was more 2dr sedan than a coupe ...

And of course in the next generations we will see a flood of niche models - body variants of core models / platforms. That's the policy current BMW management is pursuing. Flexible platforms enabling quick & inexpensive body variant developments. Audi is doing the same, and MB is also making the platforms more flexible - for new body variant introductions.
