Would birdie by any chance know what type of gearbox to expect. For the record, the autobox in X6M is a stonka by the way.

If its automatic then I hope its better than the new E63 MCT gearbox. In manual mode the gearbox is awfully slow and I dont want that behaviour in M car.

so M is following in AMG's footsteps with the 'one engine, multiple cars' characteristic

If the M5 has the V8 TT from the X5/X6 M then there is every possibility that the best version to have will not be the M5. Why would anybody want to pay SIGNIFICANTLY more than a nicely specced F10 550i M Sport V8 twin turbo with the power pack taking it to 450bhp? M cars used to be very different beasts to the standard models. With this new direction the M5 will be a 560i in all but name. Even the standard models will have active dampers and all the toys etc.

Compare that with the E60. Unique V10 engine. EDC. Power button. SMG III. Very unique styling.

Very, very sad.

New 2.7 turbo 6 Cyliner and 4.2 V8 engines?

Looks like the F10 will get 2.7 and 4.2 V8 turbo engies?

Double up the cylinder counts on the rumored engines below and we get:

2.7l, 244Hp/380Nm 6-Cyl x25i
2.7l, 300Hp/440Nm 6-Cyl x30i
2.7l, 360Hp/520Nm 6-Cyl x35i
3.2l, 408Hp/600Nm 8-Cyl x40i
3.2l, 480Hp/700Nm 8-Cyl x45i

Anyone else see this as the way forward for BMW I6/V6(?) and V8 engines?

Power button is overrated. You dont have in your M3.
Regarding EDC, many cars have it today, for instance VW Scirocco. Naturally every BMW gets it too. Saving EDC for only M cars would be stupid since its a very helpful function.
But I hope the new M5 dont get the same engine found in X5M.
