As I said a while ago in some thread here (and also provide pics): the new F10 5er is "the missing link" between E90 LCI 3er and F01 7er.

It connects 3er with 7er. Merge 3er & 7er, and you'll get the 5er.

^ That's weird because the E90 is a design from the last generation and on it's way out to be replaced be the F whatever 3 series

The Rear lights are similar to the E60 how they rise upwards, although the E60 takes the rear lamp unit to the rear windscreen and the edge of the bootlid The F10 is not that dramatic.

Using the typical BMW L-Shape design the designers have managed to incorporate somthing that looks dynamic , recognisable as a BMW and not too similar to other BMW models. the illustration gives an idea of how the car looks but I am not the best at photoshop as I try to apply the accurate image of the car using basic tools.

Scott, do you mind also highlighting the outline of the headlight in this pic?

I am loving this car already. Although it could've been more exciting ... I will reserve that for 6GT...

We all need to thank Scott for sharing that kind of stuff with us

The car looks very promising. I hope it's gonna be sporty enought and I might preffer that over my 3er.

Any reason why this is the case this time around... because the E60 5er was visually much more dramatic than the E65 7er...and in no way bridged the gap between facelifted E46 and the E65 7er.

Did BMW's research show that the styling of the E60 5er was a tad too dramatic (eventhough sales were still very strong) ... or is there some other reason why BMW have made the F10 5er milder than the F01?

How similar or different will the new 5er's rear end look compared to the Hyundai Genesis?

I know it won't have that triangular shape that the 'white' part of the Genesis' rear lights have, but anything we can draw from the Genesis (which I think has a very impressive design all-around!)

No Problem. Again I am using basic paint so the I cannot do the rounded areas of the shape of the headlight. But here is a good indication of what the front of the car is like .

Since the Hyundai must have used the E60 for influence then I can tell you we did not use the Hyundai Genesis for influence.
If you take the current car (E60)and turn that into an L shape , then make it smaller and less wrapped around the rear of the car and add the detail as seen on the 5er Gran Turismo then you get an idea of the direction.

After the E65 was developed all incoming models E63,E60 and E90 were to get an interpretation of the clamshell trunk lid , The E60 was redesigned with the trunk lid on top of the now larger rear lights originally the rear lights were smaller , There is a drawing by the late David Arcangeli which shows the original direction. The styling change was ordered because of poor reaction to the 7er's rear design. The E90 also received a design change twice with the trunk lid being replaced by a conventional trunk and an alteration to the rear lights.

Customers liked the in your face modern appearance which today the car still stands out on the road, With the new car BMW wanted the designers to take the best parts of the E60 and integrate them with the new design language so you get really aggressive BMW face , the strong swage line which follows the original E60 idea of a material stretched over a steel body so you get a prominent sculpture. I hope you now can see what I was meaning regarding the difference between the 5er and the Gran Turismo in relation to height and design application.
