Wow, I really don`t know if I like this direction!
If BMW goes with this look the 5er will loose mid-line presence and status in the design alone. It doesn`t look like a 5er at all, more like an overgrown 3-series.

If you’re one of those people that want BMW to get rid of their controversial design language, then these renderings of the next 5-Series, courtesy of Swedish magazine Automotorsport, will probably ring like music to your ears. Personally, I have mixed feelings about BMW’s “Bangle-era” designs. I really dig the Z3, Z4 & 5-Series models, but on the other hand, I absolutely hate the 7-Series and don’t care much about the X3, 1-Series, 3-Series sedan & 6-Series models.

Saying that, in my opinion, Autmotorsport’s artistic impression previews an elegant and sporty looking - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER, but way too toned down for BMW’s current design standards.

So BMW wants more coupe like elements in the next 5er. Though I`m not a really huge fan of the currant generation 5er (except the M5) I like the more upright look better. It`s simply more BMW. This low profile would give the 5er a Japanese flavor, more like a Lexus GS if you will.
