I´m surprised to see EnI giving now the OK to the andy´s PS, when we thought at the beginning than the F10 was going to have a slimmer version of the E60´s front lights.

Has this changed during the development?.

We are getting REALLY close. Yet some small details are still off. Jack's interpretation is closer but not perfect. Let's correct the following details:

Andy:

  • the kidneys shoud not be inline with main bumper creases - Jack got it better
  • the nose is still not looking vertical enough - the bent-down hood edge above the headlights is missing, and the depth of headlight area is not there: see the headlight area on the right side of Jack's car
  • the bumper should done more in Jack's way (add more Joker smile effect with that crease, side parts of bumpers are missing the grooves just above the air intake; the bumper skirt is not exposed enough - the side "teeth" should be seen).
  • the bumper area between kidneys & air intake is too big: there should be less space between kidneys & license plate
Otherwise very good!

Jack:

  • the whole car is a tad too wide, or too low - the proportion is a bit off; squeeze it a bit
  • the central part of air intake should not eat into bumpers skirt - the lower edge if air intake should be flat - see Andy's CGI
  • the gap between kidney grille is to wide; Andy got it better
  • the BMW badge is too small & sits too high
  • the hood cut line is missing above the grille
  • the chrome frame is missing inside the kidney grille - add it
  • the depth around the headlights is OK but it should be a bit more prominent
  • some details are missing: eg. headlight washers, position LED at the sides of the eyebrows, (bigger) side mirrors
Otherwise great!

Kudos to both.

Jack's impression has some more something into it. It has more depths - it looks more real somehow. That mean look just screams F10. Yet some details are not OK at all (see the list in previous post).

While Andy's details are better (GT copy/pasting paid off) yet there are still some imperfections (as listed above).

The F10 is the missing link between E90 LCI & F01:

WOW!

As said ... only the hood cut line still missing ... some crease are too prominent (hood) some too pale (the ones connecting inner corners of bumper grooves - the one around headlights / one above air-intake) ... there is still something weird about BMW badge area (the ending curve of that hood groove is missing just below the logo) ... and some slight tweaks on proportions / angles needed ...

F10!

But the stance is 100% F10.

Look at it: the missing link connecting E90 LCI 3er & F01 7er.

Just in the E60 case the F10 will also be the most elegant & mean looking BMW sedan. Great proportions & stance.

7er is looooong, trying to enforce elegance ... 3er is compact, beefy, sporty ... 5er is the perfect mix of the other two sedans: sporty, of right length, natural elegance.

Think E36 vs E39 vs E38 relations transfered into future ... dressed in modern avant-garde BMW clothes.

If I maybe so blunt. But you are all baseing your interpretations on the 5er GT Concept, a car identified to the 5er by family only. The height, width etc is much different than the 5er sedan so you're interpretations are basically 5er designs on GT facias.

The sedan is much lower than the GT in both the roofline and height from the road. The 5er sedan does not feature a semi-command driving position.

However the big news today was the selection of the new 3er before we all packed up for Geneva - MINI-E anyone?

To say the chosen car is very avantgarde is one thing. It is reminicient of a 3er but the details are very in your face the grille which featured in the GINA is right in the middle of the car enclosed in a V-Shape which forms the sculpture to the bonnet and A-Pillar . Next generation BMW's will be given as an option full LED lights so the standard car will feature a very typical lighting unit whereas specify the option and they replace the large lighting units with smaller slits. As evident on Huckfeldts 1er images ( He knows more than people think) The air intakes are slightly bigger than todays car forming a link with the upcoming 5er , GT and 7er.
The rear has smaller lighting units that wrap around similar to the CS Concept car but are more triangular at the edges of the rear wing. The new 3er overall is definetely more design led than any other previous 3er , it is not as truncated as the E46 or indeed E90 the roofline gives it a less stubby appearence. Think of a smaller CS in profile with shortened bonnet , smoother trunk lid and a well proportioned roofline.
Will people like it?

The first idea of the new 3er will be the 3er GT as they will all segue together. Some already balk at the idea of the 5er GT but many will not be happy with the 3er because it reinvents the traditional BMW compact sports sedan concept. The interior concept is similar to the Z4 but the iDrive screen is more like the traditional BMW sedan.

Half in Half between evolutionary and revolutionary .
I think it looks great but there will be controversy and debate it's just not a BMW without it.

Great post Scott, apreciate that. The only thing I don´t like at all from what you´ve told us is the fact that BMW could make the interior parts of the headlights very "chepa looking" like old cars, just because they want people to go full LED. I hope they don´t change the actual look of the interior cluster of the headlamps, it looks fantastic.

I also wonder if the kidneys of the next 3er are going to be very different in design to the ones on the F10 and F01, as they have GINA´s influence.
