Eni: based on your latest description I assume this is accurate somehow .. sportier glasshouse, wider , cleaner and longer a little bit. Almost an evolution of the current design.
That doesn't look bad, but the back- the back looks like a an adult 3-series.

I would give the proportion maybe a yes but the detail - that is so.....2006.
The 5er will be out in 2010 the beginning of the next decade even.
So the detail will reflect this just as the detail of the E60 reflected this decade . Some details will remain such as the agressive looking front end the front lights will be more slimmer but still have that angular look inbetween them the kidney grille will become a little wider and less curved than todays car.

The rear end carries over with split lamps a shape similar to todays car wraps around the rear wings and connects the swage line which is more of a ledge than a flat surface than todays car . The licence plate is relocated to the rear bumper while a prominent BMW logo takes place in the centre of the bootlid.
Just as today's 5er is technologically advanced the next one will inherit some options that you will see first in the next 7er such as BMW's Connected Drive and Autopark functions.

If the Lexus LS is a harbinger of things to come, this next generation of luxury cars will be packed with extravagantly dumb technologies that have very limited real world use - or at least, give rise to a form of "lazy driving" that hinges on embarrassing.

The limitations of the LS autopark make it redundent to all but the most unskilled drivers, and the "Connected Drive" video I've seen on YouTube doesn't really get me too enthused (I wonder - can it back out?).

Could it be that we've hit the point of deminishing luxury returns!? I believe the answer is yes.

I agree, it's almost like automakers are running out of new ideas, so they come up w/ more answers to questions no one ever thought (and aren't thinking) to ask. Automakers should spend more time refining existing technologies and making higher quality, less bug prone vehicles. Not to mention focusing on what makes their brand unique and making sure their cars deliver on brand hallmarks.

Thanks for the info Scott!!

I guess project F10 is progressing quite well. And i'm really looking forward to what they'll come up with.

Is the design set in stone? i.e has the board of management signed-off on the final proposal?
