Spy photographers have spotted what appears to be a prototype of the long-rumored BMW V-series testing in Munich. The car appears to be a pure hatchback with no room for a rear deck-lid. Overall styling appears to be similar to that of the recently unveiled X6, but the vehicle spied has a taller roofline arc — allowing for more headroom in back — and the rear hatch looks more cargo-friendly.

Earlier reports said the BMW V-series would go head-to-head with Mercedes' R-class, but it looks as though BMW will make the V-series more car-like than the van-like R-class from Mercedes. This is probably a good decision for BMW as it better suits the automaker's values and the R-class has been received with a luke-warm reception at best.

Re: BMW V-series / F-series (V5/F5 & V3/F3)

Look like it will be an over-grown MPV-ish Mercedes CLS wannabe.

Re: BMW V-series / F-series (V5/F5 & V3/F3)

Awesome find, thanks!!!

Heavy cladding still (as much as the F01 7er), but you can clearly see this is no X6! Much lower front, and more room in the back. Exiting stuff, you can already see this is no car of the 'X' series.....I can see a CS inspired shark nose The car looks to be less than two years away!

What is the internal name of this product?

The choice of words isn't mine, but I think that is exactly what it is. Only this car has a hatchback like boot.

Strange design, it's not a van, it's not a touring, it's not a sedan, but a real meltingpoat. This car is supposed to be the next 7er the contender of all the big new BMW technologies, i am really curious about the final result.

Wouldn't F5 be the name we actually see on the boot? Like X5?

BMW referred to it as the RFK (=Raumfunktionales Konzept)

Re: BMW V-series / F-series (V5/F5 & V3/F3)

If you look closely you can see the identity of the RFK as seen through the leaked pictures some time ago. As you already know it was these leaked RFK images that really pissed off BMW most of all because for the Board of directors this creation was love @ first sight.

I have seen this car in a studio nose to nose with an R-Klasse . The R-Klasse might be larger but the RFK is very radical for the segment think how X6 surprised you and then you have similar anticipation and expectation for the RFK - It is truly futuristic , the front lights are similar in shape to the CS Concept but are longer , The rear is very similar to what interpretations have showcased but there are subtle detail changes.

After the X6 debut in October the next push will be the RFK . As Helmut Panke said in his speech about the X6 and RFK many moons ago.
Two new cars with a different direction for BMW in style and execution but no compromise on the traditional dynamic handling as expected with a BMW.

The X6 is currently in the spotlight but the RFK will get it's chance of fame in the near future.
