Check the pics of clay models. You'll see the car had different - lower & more aggressive - rear. Yet since such a design would compromise the interior space which was a priority here. Therefore the designers had to change the rear design a bit - yet the engineers did an excellent job as well since they first claimed the roof would had to be even higher. So, as you can see the exterior design followed the interior one (not talking about styling here but the layout).

Of course the form followed function ... But who said that's an excuse? As said: the car looks very stylish.

Martin complained about the sum of details was less then a whole ... I then just explained the point behind the car - why some exterior design had to follow the cabin space. Yes, perhaps this car would look more gracious but the rear space would be compromise, and the car would completely lose its selling point. Or perhaps a longer boot would look better - but then the car would be a 5.5m long sedan with high roof & sitting position (such vehicle still coming - the X4).

Regarding your opinion about GT not looking good: does this something to do with you being jealous & frustrated? Since this car looks about zillion times better than R-class by your beloved MB ...

****

And I'm being really tired to be attacked by you all over again. You know very well I'm biased towards BMW, and well connected. And you know I explain a lot - and you always call that an excuse & BS. YAWN! Next time don't read what you don't want to read! If it does not fit you - move on. Can't you just ignore me & my write ups? Or there is some irrational obsession going on here? I hope not. But I'm afraid there is something to it since this is not the first such argue we have. It's quite chronic. And that worries me.

Yet again we get a long winded explanation of something that doesn't need to be explained. Typical.

I couldn't care less about this car looking better than the R-Class, thats your thing...MB vs. BMW. Its s cheap angle to say the least since this has nothing to do with Mercedes-Benz. Naturally anyone that has an opinion on anything BMW that isn't favorable must have some type of problem. Typical BMW koolaid drinker's response.

If you notice I don't comment on nearly anything you post anymore. Besides it being consistantly biased for BMW, it is predictable. This however today was just ridiculous. Telling us that car's exterior was of secondary importance to imply that BMW didn't try when it is pretty obvious that they did. The sheer BS of it all deserved a comment.

Now there an obsession, guy get over yourself please? Another save-face tactic for when your BMW-laced rhetoric is questioned and called out for what it is, nonsense.

Also, I do appreciate your business insights and inside information, can't take that away from you, but when it comes to BMW the car and issues like this one your inherent bias renders most of your points useless as far as I'm concerned. BMW could design the ugliest car on the market and you'd be right there to praise it.

Yep and you've managed to give more than a few riddles (i.e. excuses and nonsense).

Doesn't that look a bit like an obsession? To me it does.

Having had a preview of the marketing direction of the BMW 5er Gran Turismo before the car rolls out before the end of the month, T has made the GT as an object of desire , like a piece of art or a must have accessory.

Simply speaking the new production 5er GT certainly has the desirable look going to it. If you look at the White model shown in FEP stage you can see the larger rims that will come with the car there is also a new pallette of colors to accompany the theme , and new interior colors aswell , my favourite exterior is Damast Red and all this before BMW Individual becomes involved who have some new colours to be introduced accompanying this car , I especially like the mahogany exterior color they have planned , fitted with a champagne exterior with exclusive pipeing at the edges. The car just oozes premium luxury.

With the BMW X1 debuting in June , BMW are holding a press event on the 23rd of June at the Leipzig plant where both the GT and X1 will be shown , these are not test drives but normal pre-launch previews .
All this on the back of the pilot production start of the BMW X1 .
BMW will also be holding special GT preview events to prepare the public for the car.

Both cars will appear as production cars at the IAA in Frankfurt this September.
