Yes, I know that. But I want to know what the internal code for the car is when you can buy one. It won't be a Raumfunktionales Konzept by that time after all

I assume it'll be in the Fxx line, like the new 7er/5er/6er/Z4....The sharknose says that too.

Not all in-developement cars have an F code. Not sure how classified these codes are, so I'm not going to give examples. You just have to take my word for it

BTW, does anyone still have these leakd images. I can't remeber anything about them anymore!

Again, what is the point of this model? The X5, 5-Series Touring, and now X6 all have something to offer so I don't see the point of this, just as pointless as the R-Class at first glance.

I actually think that there was more "point" to the R class than all those SUVs that never see an off road trail (or the CLS for that matter). But R class flopped while the SUVs sell like beads at Mardigras - which I guess goes to show that in today's market (at least in the premium segment) people don't buy cars for practical reasons alone but more for the 'feel good' factor.

True, but Mercedes botched it somewhere along the line. Really botched it. The original concept had merit, but what showed up at the dealerships was barely related IMO. BMW is though, doing just what many have said Mercedes was wrong for doing, putting a BMW in every garage. BMW doesn't need this vehicle or that rumored X1 SUV or any more crossovers IMO. Now Eni will give you business case as to why these vehicles are needed, and from that standpoint they make sense, but from where enthusiasts sit BMW has enough non-car products already.

I think both of you are right.

1 - The execution of the R-Klasse didn't evoke the kind of feelings we normally associate with upmarket Benz models and made us think "van" too much.

2 - People in this segment want the "feel good" factor, and aren't interested in a practical people-mover. The family that might have been a candidate for the R-Klasse might be more incined to get a CLK and a Honda Odyssey and call it a day.

I still think the R-Klasse has merit. When I took one for a spin I was impressed by the car-ish feeling you get behind the wheel, and the absolutely cavernous accommodations provided in the back. I just think that the entire effort got watered-down in execution and didn't reach the people that it hoped to reach. Those jet-set group movin' executives rather have any number of Mercedes' other offerings.

Thanks for the info Scott,

does that mean F5 is next in line...even before the F01 ??

Originally it was rumored/considered to use 'suizide' rear doors (as also seen in the Huckfedt CGI) ...in the spy pics it appears (!?) to have standard doors.

Would be interesting to see it in comparison to a 5 series touring to get an idea of the size.
