I'm pretty sure we get ours 5ers from Germany. Malaysian-made BMWs are for the Malaysian market only, as far as i know.

Re: 5 series facelift south east asia launch dates? - 05-04-2007, 07:55 AM

just got word that the new bmw 5 series facelift will be introduced in Malaysia in July without the new direct injection engine!!! Bmw Malaysia is launching the facelift with the old 3.0i 258 bhp engine!! ARE THEY RETARDED?? I really lost it when my dealer called me with this news. The reason being that the new 3.0si 272bhp engine direct injection engine cost too much and will raise the price of the bmw 530i. Hence bmw germany is exporting all the old 3.0i 258 bhp engines to countries like Malaysia supposingly THIRD WORLD NATIONS! does anyone understand and can relate to my anger and irritation?? I have a susbstantial deposit with BMW Malaysia over the past 8 months as I have been waiting for the new bmw 530i facelift with the new 3.0si direct injection engine which the WHOLE WORLD IS getting except MALAYSIA and other "third world nations"!!!!! and lastly the deposit is non refundable!!

Nope. I'm not a BMW owner so I don't get any insider updates, either! Will keep my ears peeled...

That is disappointing... Is there any way for you to indent/parallel import in a 530si DI? BTW, I thought you're getting the X5? Or both?

James, bmw malaysia does not ecourage parallel imports due to Approved Permits allocation system in Malaysia where the government only hands out allocated number of apporoved permits to the big boys like benz, merc etc and make it very difficult for individuals 2 acquire it. In this aspects KL is really lagging singapore in terms of car imports and transparency in permits allocations and availability.

just giving an update on the 5 series facelift in malaysia. Malaysia will indeed get a facelifted 5 series but without the new direct injection engines instead it will get "tuned up" versions of the existing engines to increase the hp count. I find this rather unusual and wondering what you guys think? Would bmw germany approve this or is bmw malaysia doing this on the sly due to the fact most future 5 series buyers like me were upset when told that we wont be getting the new engines. Just sounds very suspicious!

If above is true i can only say it sucks, big time and imho, BMW would NOT approve such thing! At least i hope so, otherwise, that's a big shame and disappointment!

Would like to hear from Scott or Eni about this. I honestly never heard for such thing about BMW.
