Please can someone explain to me why this car is called the S550 and not S500 for the North American market?

One thing I noticed is in one of the pictures there was an aerial on the boot lid, and I remember seeing that on spy pictures and everyone assumed it was testing equipment cause it looked weird! Sorry if this is old news but I'm a bit out of touch in the car world at the moment. What is it for?
