Impressions on the S8 Audios from Top Gear - 01-26-2006, 12:12 PM


Impressions of guide, from the situated Top Gear and to company Matt Master, of the S8 Audios with V10 5,2 deriving from that one of the Lamborghini Gallardo, and with application of technology FSI of the R8. We begin from the end, because the judgment is not of all the positive one: the car is definitia "fabolous" in all its aspects, but at the same time equally "pointless", large traducibile way with "foolish".

"fabulous" E' for impeccable finishes, the exaggerated performances, and also for the optimal level prezzo/prestazioni: in England it costs 70,000 pounds, that is less than one Mercedes S Class of equal level (for Top Gear, the AMG S55), or of one Maserati Quattroporte. On the numerical data and the street behavior, the judgments obviously are positi to you: the S8 is fastest in every condition, touches the 250 km/h "much" autolimita to you and covers the 0/100 km/h in 5,1 second ones; the power is inferior to the Gallardo, but brace is advanced and available to 90% since 2300 giri/min, with normal distribution 40% - 60% behind, and principle 65%, 85% behind; optimal also the change tiptronic 6 marce that, with selection "sport", delays the changed one; also the refrained one is exceptional - but the tried car had the brakes in ceramics from 5000 pounds, whose "survival" is guaranteed how much practically the life of the car. Finally, the S8 turns out all added manageable although dimensions and mass...

And here they begin hurting notes: "what really you want from this car"? - that is: why to acquire the S8? Other A8 Audios are sufficiently performanti, as an example the W12 6,0 (motor for truth defined "frankly ridicolous") or the 4,2 V8, more comfortable and not little lussuose.
The order is always a compromise between confort and comfort, rendering the German car more adapted to the "Autobahn" that to the tortuose roads of England (and we could not add of much part of Italy): in short, it is less comfortable than other cars of that level of price (as an example, the other A8), but at the same time it does not give feelings from true "sport car". The finishes in carbon to the inside, in a context however loaded with servomeccanismi electrical workers and lussuositą, suggest a reduction of weight from sport car, but until to a sure point, inasmuch as we are always little under the 2 tons: for Top Gear, best then the RS4. Insomma, the S8 is defined the just choice "for who cannot allow an car from job, and from divertimento"... and an car of this level can however be allowed!
