The current Mini Cooper Cabrio has been on the market since 2004 and was original launched three years after the debut of the hatchback. Since the Mk II Mini Cooper hatchback arrived in 2007, fans of the soft-top variant have been wondering when the updated car would show up. According to the latest reports, the new Mini Cabrio is due in March next year and these revealing spy shots give us a good indication as to what the final version will look like.

Existing stock of the current model will sustain sales through July, and BMW does not plan to build more. Since the next version of the Cabrio isn’t going to begin production until March of next year, it appears there will be at least a six-month gap in supply. Like the current model, the new Cabrio will feature a 3-in-1 soft top with built-in automatic sunroof and heated rear window. Both standard Cooper and Cooper S variants are expected as well.
The Mini Cooper Cabrio recently made news as being one of the safest compact convertibles on the market. The model’s rear roll bars protected back seat occupants better than any other model during a comprehensive rollover test conducted in Germany, but front passengers did suffer from partially collapsed A-pillars and poor seatbelt placement.
