The Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) has named the new BMW 3 Series Coupé 'Best New Sports Performance Car over $50,000.’ AJAC members recently conducted three days of intensive road and track testing of all new 2007 models in Canada, and it was during this testing that the new 300 horsepower twin turbo 335i Coupé stood out in its category. The new 3 Series Coupé is now eligible for AJAC’s 2007 ‘Canadian Car of the Year,’ which will be announced at the Canadian International Autoshow in Toronto in February 2007. AJAC member Bob English commenting on the 3 Series Coupé in the Globe and Mail, stated, “The interior is light and airy and elegantly trimmed in leather and burl walnut. This is matched by a driving experience that is a true delight. The twin (tiny) turbo, 3.0-litre inline-six revs to 7,000 rpm, producing 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque and feeding it to the rear wheels via a surgically precise six-speed gearbox.” “This recognition from Canadian auto journalists is significant given the extremely thorough testing and scoring process that all of the vehicles go through,” stated Lindsay Duffield, President and CEO, BMW Group Canada. “The AJAC award provides consumers with a strong third-party endorsement and we are honoured to receive it”, he added. The award continues an impressive streak of AJAC honours for BMW products. In 2004, the BMW 5 Series Sedan was named AJAC’s ‘Best New Luxury Car’ while BMW Active Steering took the award for ‘Best New Technology.’ In 2005, the BMW X3 Sports Activity Vehicle took top honours in the ‘Best New Sports Utility Vehicle’ category. And last year, the BMW 3 Series Sedan won ‘Best New Sports Sedan’ with the BMW 5 Series Touring named ‘Best New Luxury/Prestige Car.’ The new BMW 3 Series Coupé is offered in three variants in Canada. The BMW 328i Coupé is powered by the latest version of BMW’s lightweight 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder mangnesium/aluminum composite block engine, featuring Valvetronic variable valve-lift technology, with an output of 230 horspower and 200 ft-lb of torque. Equipped with the standard 6-speed manual transmission, the BMW 328i Coupe will sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. The base MSRP of the BMW 328i Coupé is $43,600. The BMW 328xi Coupé embodies all of the new features of the 328i Coupé and introduces BMW’s xDrive Intelligent all-wheel-drive system for the first time to the 3 Series Coupé family – also notably the first all-wheel drive variant in its segment. While providing the additional advantages of xDrive all-wheel drive, the BMW 328xi Coupé maintains all of the dynamic handling characteristics of the BMW 328i, with the new 3.0 liter engine providing similarly brisk acceleration, achieving 0-100 in 7.1 seconds. The 328xi Coupé with xDrive all-wheel drive has a base MSRP of $46,100. The BMW 335i Coupé features the world debut of a truly extraordinary power unit : the first inline six with twin turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection and an all-aluminum crankcase. With a maximum output of 300 horsepower and peak torque of 300 ft-lb, this torque figure available from 1,400 through 5,000 rpm, the 335i Coupé provides a breathtaking delivery of power, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. Featuring two small low-inertia turbos – each feeding 3 cylinders, high-precision direct fuel injection and dual-VANOS variable valve timing, the new 335i Coupé engine not only provides scintillating performance, but also optimizes fuel economy, with projected average fuel consumption of just 10.3 litres premium/100 kilometres. The BMW 335i Coupé is available at Canadian BMW Retailers with a base MSRP of $51,600. |
