| Is this Realiable info about M3 E92 V8? -

from E90post
Hi, The E92 M3 is promised to do (according to my BMW sources) less than 4.5 seconds 0-62mph accelleration time on the fastest SMG IV program (by upchanging gears without using the clutch at all!) It'll also beat M5 and M6 to 100mph. After that, the V10's might pull stronger (at least when getting to around 200mph) M GmbH has stated several times that the E92 M3 will be the premium M-model of the lineup (no wonder, with a 9000rpm engine) and basically a street version in the spirit of the legendary M3 GTR Racetrack monster, which was very light (around 1250kg/2700lbs) and had a firebreathing 4L V8 with over 500hp+, and won 10 American Le Mans (ALMS) races, with dual victories in 4 races and 10 pole positions back in 2001. The new M3 will be very close to 450hp if not over it, and torque will be on the same level. This is according to my sources at BMW. We'll know for sure around next March when the M3 is officially released (and demoed)
Enilab, Scott27 can we trust the info regarding SMG4 , 9000 rpm and 450 hp?

Invitation to a VIP E92 M3 show in March
Hello and greetings to everyone on this board. I have some info about the E92 M3, a delivery of which I am also waiting for, so I thought I would post it here as well, since it seems that this is "the place" for information on the new M3.
Here's what I have so far:
Guys,
As I get to test-drive all the cars that the local BMW reseller brings into the country (I automatically get booked for a day to drive and photo, and if I want to, I can ask to keep them longer too), the BMW reseller just last week sent me an invitation to a E92 M3 unveiling happening in March 2007 (exact date of which will be confirmed later, but March is certain) where the final product should already be on display!! I can't wait. I'm number one on the waitlist as far as the actual production cars go, but I'm sure the dealer will get this one demo individual and maybe another one or two other demo cars first, since first deliveries here are not due until later in summer 2007.
I guess BMW will press release the M3 in March, as they typically release new cars in March and September of every year, as I'm sure most of you know. My salesguy and also another guy (who runs the import department) from the reseller told me that deliveries should take place around summer 2007 - probably later in the summer rather than sooner . As far as the car itself, It'll be all that it's been rumored to be and more. Basically, M3 GTR steet legal, with higher max revs and a more advanced transmission system (The SMG IV), and I'm sure I don't have to tell you more about the technology.
Now I just can't wait until March to actually see one of these babies live, touch it, sit in it, hear the engine... But since they promised a March show, that would indicate that BMW is going to start producing these very soon! In fact, in just 2-4 months from now!!! And I'd go bonkers before the summer if I didn't have my ECU tuned 130i M Sport to play around with (The N52B30 is an incredible engine, almost as rev happy and nervous as the M3/Z4 M's S54B32.)
Best regards,

I know you didn't ask my opinion, but they're are two things i'm skeptic on. Firstly, the redline of 9,000 rpm, i honestly don't think BMW will go that high with the redline, i'd imagine around 8,250 rpm. Secondly, i'm a bit skeptic on the engine's torque, i highly doubt BMW will go for a torque number thats equal to the horsepower, especially considering BMW's recent past with high revving engines. Ideally, what i'd like to see is:
4.0 litres,
450PS
500Nm (something around this figure) | | | | | Expert

Let's see. V8 - derived from the V10, not the V8 in the M3 GTR; 9000 - posible, the derestricted V10 can rev to 10 000 rpms without problems, but for the restricted V8 version 8250 will probably be the redline; 450 HP - posible for the derestricted V8 considering the derestricted V10 has ~540 HP, but for the normal restricted version unlikely/imposible; SMG IV - maybe, but most likely a tweaked SMG III; modified GTR street-leagal - NO WAY, people still need power windows, air conditioning, Sat Nav, etc.; besides the GTR was based on (a highly modified version of) the E46/platform; | | | | | Global Moderator

Anyways i also think it will be about 450 PS. As for a weight predicition the M3 CS weighs 1570kg, considering the E60 M5 gained weight from the V8 to V10 transformation i'd estimate the M3 gains approx. 50kg | | | | | Contributor

I am curious to find out how this gentleman and will get to see the new M3 before everyone else. He is right about one thing and that is Geneva in March 2007.
But it will be a "Concept" similar to the M5 in 2004 . with the production car having it's official press release in July before official premiere at the Frankfurt Motor show in September.
Official on-sale date is expected after Frankfurt But BMW might hold off till Late 07 or early 08 if early production problems arise - US deliveries will start in Summer 08 or later.
Yes the M3 will have a V8 but remember the top M car is and still will be the M6. For that it will retain over 400BHP but nowhere near as 450BHP which is approaching the door of the M6.
For the M3 it is to bring a new driving experience to the M3. An experience that will utilise the latest developments and advantages of new technologies. Without going completley overboard and insane on the output figures. | | | | | Executive

Pure BS.
Concept M3 coupe in Geneva (maybe some VIP persons will be able to see it earlier in Detroit), real deal in Frankfurt 2007.
Expect 305-315kW, 400-420Nm, 0-100km/h in less than 4.8s, etc in the restricted street car.
The car will be a killer anyway! Do not forget: they are targeting 911.
The limited edition CSL will probably have near 330kW.
Btw, I have no info Getrag is developing SMG IV. So ... | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
