It will come with lean-burn direct injection: High Precision Injection. Initially it will come with same power / torqe as N52 engine: 272HP / 315Nm. Lower consumption. Cleaner exhausts.

Some models will also feature automatic Stop & Start engine function, and Inteligent alternator Control & Brake Energy Regeneration.

Both the 3.0 and 2.5 variants or only 3.0 (272hp/315Nm)?

I'm not sure. So far I've heard people talking about 3.0L unit only.

Also it is unknown to me which car will be the first one to feature the new engine & all the other effecientDynamic stuff.

I know N53, IAC & BER are being tested in facelifted 5er mules - so I guess facelifted 5er will sure have the tech by the debut in Spring 2007. Will the other models (E93, 3dr 1er) debuting in the same time also get the new tech it's unknown to me.

E93 was also said to get N53, yet I heard that only once. No confirmation yet. But we will see that soon - since PR will be out soon after Paris auto show closes the doors.

Yet I'm sure other models will get the new stuff sooner or later.

Re: Question for EniLab - 10-11-2006, 02:46 AM

I don’t like diesel engines, but the tax regime in my country fraudulent preferences diesel powered cars. Some examples:

E90:
..................................325i ....... 325d
Weight ................... 7 200€ ...... 8 900€
CO2 emission ........... 7 300€ ...... 2 900€
Engine power ......... 17 300€ ..... 12 600€
Total tax ............... 31 800€ ..... 24 400€

E92:
................................ 330i ....... 330i DI ...... 330d
Weight ................... 7 900€ ...... 7 900€ ..... 8 900€
CO2 emission ........... 8 800€ ...... 5 100€ ..... 3 100€
Engine power ......... 29 100€ ..... 29 100€ ... 20 100€
Total tax ............... 45 800€ ..... 42 100€ ... 32 100€

So the new BMW DI gasoline engines will help a little, little bit ……….

Eni, are we eventually getting the DI engines in NA? If not, what's the reason?

BMW say when low-sulphur gasoline will be widely available.

But since N54 engine - which also use lean-burn DI HPI technology - is already available in US (I guess with some modifications), N53 could come soon.
