BMW 3-Series Coupe pricing for U.S. revealed - 07-06-2006, 06:16 PM

Not sure if this was posted before, i searched and didn't find it:

The eager folks over at e90post.com have come across the complete list of pricing for BMW's new 3-Series Coupe lineup, and the most significant nugget of information is that both the new 328i and 335i coupes are going up in price by a hefty $3,000 each. The base 328i model will now start at $35,300, the all-wheel drive 328xi will start at $37,100, and the 335i with the new twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six will start at $40,600.

BMW must know what people are willing to pay, as the reaction on e90post.com's forum has been one of understanding. The 328i will come with a new, naturally aspirated inline-six that produces 230 horsepower and 200 ft-lbs. of torque, enough to make the base coupe quicker to 60 mph than the current top-of-the-line 330Ci coupe. The new 335i, of course, has BMW's trick twin-turbo 3.0L inline-six cylinder that generates 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque. The 335i will reach 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, and we're old enough to remember when that was supercar territory.

So it appears dropping another three large on your 3-Series Coupe might just be worth it.

Follow the link to e90post.com's forum where you'll find a PDF containing the prices of each individual option and option packages.

For my next car I'm thinking of going back to the coupe... but not sure if it'll be worth it once the 335i sedan comes into play.

That's a bump from the E46, but then again, the 328i has more or less the same performance as the 330Ci. We were pretty much on the mark with $40k for the 335i.

Those prices still look great to me. I doubt that BMW will have any trouble turning around their stock. And as was alluded to above, I also believe that there will be an increase in the used car sales volume as well with the previous models.

For this stunning looking car with all the items listed, still under $50,000. That is pretty amazing. The Montego Blue will look incredible. Looking forward to seeing the car in real life.

Re: BMW 3-Series Coupe pricing for U.S. revealed - 07-06-2006, 10:22 PM

Color me miffed.

I was seriously considering the 328i coupe, despite the fact that I'm a bargin hunter and early demand will certainly kill buyer leverage. I was thinking that maybe, must mayyybbee I could find the right guy who'd be willing to bend on European Delivery price.

But here's the thing now - there's just a puney $5,000 difference between the 328 and the 335. No way in tarnation I'd go so far as to pay over $35k for a car and not go the extra distance for great performance. It's not a value proposition to start with.

Once I added options onto a 328i I'd already be well over $5k in the hole, so why not upgrade and just skip on some of the extra stuff?

Funny. The 328 is selling for more than I thought it would, and the 335 is selling for less! Basically, the price gap remains the same between the two trims, but instead of there being 40hp separating the two cars, there's 70hp separating them! Since the 335i is "normalizing" the prices here, the 328 seems like a rip-off by comparison!

This causes a real delima, since $45k is about as far as I could stretch my budget's imagination right now... I'm curious to know what these same engines will be fetching when they're inside of the sedan. Maybe $2k less?

Do I really need navigaton?
Will I really use that retractable sunshade?
Would I really need premium audio when I could just listen to the engine all day?

Shine it. Maybe I'll just start saving up all my acorns until the convertible rolls along.

That's pretty much how I'd build mine as well... just replace cold weather package with premium audio.

Keep us informed with your buying experience. I'm curious - are you the kind to lock horns with the dealer, or are you a softy when it comes to haggling?

I'll take you for a ride in it when I get it. Maybe I can race you in your RUF 911 turbo. Of course you will kill me, especially when you get your new turbo.

I'm sure the low 5 second 0-60 time of the 335 can keep up with your sub 4 second 0-60.

Osnabrueck, on the 335 the premium audio is standard. As far as the dealer goes I'm somewhat of a softy. Besides I don't expect BMW dealers will haggle much on the 335 anyway. However, this will be the 3rd BMW I've leased from this particular dealer so I hope they will haggle as much as they can.
