This enthusiast was so keen for an OEM E46 M3 sedan that he decided to build his own! (incl S54 transplant) Really remarkable thread to go through if you have time. Each and every step has been explained in detail with pics. It is long but a thoroughly enjoyable read:

Seriously? it looks like someone obtained a damged M3 and cannibalised the M3 enhancements to a regular 318i. Which shows the 2001 model bumper attached to a 1998 model E46? What is going on?

Messing with an original M3 to make that thing is not cool though, sorry.

This beauty here was butchered for the project:

While it is sad for the lovely oxford green coupe, if you read through the thread the OP explains how taxes on coupes are very high in Norway such that going through to the extent of this whole transformation works out to be cheaper.

some more pics from the build:

Either way I am very impressed with the final results. He will be taking it down to Rudskogen circuit to track it, will post the vids when they're up

I love it. The proportions, design and colour it perfect. The E46 design is one of my top favourite, BMW got everything absolutely right, even the performance.

I read somewhere once it had something to do with the wider rear track on the M3 which causes flared rear fenders which in turn made fitting in rear doors difficult. They would probably have to re-engineer the rear suspension to work with out the wider track.
