As I explained several times: every car sold is sold with a profit.

So no matter how many cars are sold the project is a success - since it generates net profit.

It's not like the core lines when profitability kicks in after quite high volume sold per year. Here the profitable volume line is very, very low.

These niche cars are all about profit, and not about sales volume. Get it?

Isn't that quite an exaggeration? Sure, development costs are less than they would be for a core model. But, we're still talking about some 100 m, aren't we?

This is why we get these demi-procucts of a car. They add a lot to the comfort junkies but it is not as easy to please the real driving enthusiasts.

Let's just hope that the money goes to keep the spirit alive, 'cause there has been a lot of withdrawal from that account lately.

I'm sorry EnI, I have never read anything from your posts that explains what you have written here, so forgive me for posting such a daft question.

This 3er GT makes more sense to me than the 5er GT. While I'm starting to come around to the 5's design, it's reason for being escapes me. Now with the 3er, since it's the bread-and-butter of BMW, having different iterations of this platform will definitely boost BMW's sales without abandoning its core philosophy. By core philosophy, offering something relatively sporty and light with avantgarde stying at a price-point that might appeal to a larger demographic.

The 3er Gran Turismo is exactly this , however I do hope you ignore the latest interpretations because I hope everybody else see's what I see that it is a 5er Gran Turismo with an E90 face and do not take it as face value as some have and people wonder why we announce their posts are sometimes a source of amusement or a facepalm moment back in Munich.

The car chosen to be the 3er Gran Turismo is truly stunning. It is a mixture of coupe and a touring - a real dynamic looking shooting brake which righty earns the name "Progressive Activity Coupe".
The engineering brief for this car relays it's intentions - It has to be as agile to drive as a Coupe and more dynamic than a conventional Touring.
5er Gran Turismo is defined as Personal luxury , 3er Gran Turismo is defined as Sporting Luxury.
