The front of the car receives a widened but not too large kidney grille , smaller than the F10 5er with shapely lighting units surround the grille. design sculpture under the lighting units is less prominent than featured on the Z4 under each headlight unit there is a semi circle shape which in the centre allows for a V shaped opening where the kidney grille is placed.
this old impression seems to fit the description better

Will not all vechiles, from the 1-series via the Z2 to the 3-series, behave pretty much the same if they are based on the same platform? It is cheap. Yes. But will it not make the models a bit bland?
Not at all. This is not the old VW Golf Mrk IV platform which was just one platform with a different body shell attatched as a Audi,VW,Skoda or Seat. Although that worked for sales and costs it damaged the reputation of the car because they all drove the same that it was difficult to distinguish the brands, incidentally when VW were circling BMW in the days of Rover - The Golf Mrk IV Platform was offered as an option for the Rover 45 replacement.

The new modular architecture is defined by it's ability to be stretched , shortened , widened or contracted which will suit a multitude of vehicles each with their own placement of suspension and engine positioning for maximum 50/50 weight distribution and of course their own driving characteristics.

That BMW are discussing multiple variants for the 1er and 3er is because using the modular platform allows BMW to make greater cost savings by using the modular platform at great efficiency.

They should at least open the 3-series factory in North America, even Canada. as long as it is North America. Then they can hire people there for $16/Hour (if in Canada, then health care is free). I'm sure a factory worker in Germany makes more than $16 American dollars an hour.

The typical BMW glasshouse remains with the new design link of a shadow hoffmeister kick as featured on the 7er and X1 being featured on the car this time wrapping around the rear door quarterlight and forming a surface line not cut into the body to form the shoulderline of the car where the door handles will meet this follows through to the front of the car where it is broken up by the front wheel arch and then continues to meet the front headlight unit. The rear flanks from the rear light towards the rear door are left with a subtle line which links to the shape of the rear lights and the bootlid sculpture.
So to say a cs broken shoulderline and roofline similar to the cs side profile...?

^Its a very nice PS, but i doubt it will look like this cos Scott mentioned the head lights angle away from grille, 5GT style. Unless I'm mistaken.
