Imagine: with E60 5er & E63 6er production end also the M5 & M6 variants are dead. Sometimes in 2010 at latest. When also 3-coupe / cabrio facelift is due (incl M3 variants) ... Imagine the both versions 335i & M3 getting a boost at that time. 335si getting 326HP (+20HP), and M3 Competition Package (new standard model) with 450HP (+30HP). 3er Sedan & touring remaining 335i with 306HP. As well as 135i models.

I SERIOUSLY disagree with you.
1.) The 135i/335i in my opinion is not devasatingly close to the E92 M3 in performance. They are however very close to the E46 M3. The fastest recorded time for an E92 6speed is 4.1sec to 60mph. The fastest for the 1/3 is 4.7/4.8respectively. Anybody thats drag raced can tell you thats a big difference. If you watch videos, a stock E92 will pull BUS LENGTHS on the 135i/335i past 90mph.
2) The 3series have plenty of competition here in the states. The Infiniti G series is the closest to date. The facelifted G37 sedan gets 330hp standard. All that for the price of a 328i.
3) Any kind of power boost for the //M3 in the near future is a great idea! I dont think BMW has ever given an M a power boost until the next generations come out. There are monstrous cars out there(GT-R). The //M still manages to beat the RS4/C63/IS-F despite it being down on power and torque. A power bump would destroy them further.

well by devastatingly close I was referring to this:
Ofcourse the S65's superiority will fall into place +90mph but 0-60 times along with quarter mile sprints seem to hold more relevance as far as performance tests go. So if they do bump the power up on the N54's, IMO, BMW will only be creating more internal competition between the M3 and its junior siblings. However Tine has mentioned that there seems to be a power upgrade in the pipeline for the f/l M3.

Actually, If memory serves me right, they did on the E36 M3. The first came with the 3.0 litre S50 and then at a later stage BMW also offered them with a 3.2 liter S52 with a bit more poke. Cant remember the exact power figures, but there was definitely an upgrade.

Thanks for further elaborating. That video is very suspect. That guy does not know how to launch. Once again, the 1/4 mi times are 12.5 versus 13.3 for the cars. After that is disgusting. A 20hp wont make that much of a difference.

I think you're right in regards to the E36 as well!

The 3.0 liter S50 was rated at 286 hp and the 3.2 liter S52 had 321 hp here in Europe.
BMW come from a fine tradition of upgrading power in the M-models. If you count the CSL then also the E46 M3 got a power upgrade. 343 hp -> 360 hp.
