ermm...... I seem to have mixed feelings. The Cabrio doesnt look bad but its just not blowing me. Why is BMW getting away with such cheap-skate photography these days? A car like this surely deserves better launch pics too. The pics are a bit bland according to BMW standards.

Yes, I am a bit disappointed that with the performance figures as well as the looks of the shifter too. I was hoping they would atleast give it a new look to distinguish it from the outgoing SMG III but yeah, the guys are lazy. They didnt even get some sort of a dome shaped cover to surround the shifter as they do on the other models.

Anyways bit of a mediocre release IMO.

On another note, these aftermarket shift knobs are probably going to sell like hot cakes too!

This car looks just as I expected, but I have to admit for the rear/side view it looks very hot!

However I don't really like the side view, the body panels look a bit out of place, and the roof has all black gaps in it, never noticed that before, maybe it's because the car is in white!

It was a leak, not a press release I believe. Not that I expect the release pics to be any better.

BMW M3 Cabrio Spied

Call it coincidence or a nice PR trick to draw some of the attention away from the Detroit Motor Show, but the upcoming M3 cabrio has been spotted on the road. The BMW M3 is scheduled for a Geneva debut and should be at dealerships in June, just in time for the convertible season kick off.
The M3 Convertible is powered by the 420 hp V8, found under the hood of the M3 coupe and M3 sedan, but weighs a little more with its steel folding roof at 1,800 kg. Still acceleration is more than sufficient with its 5.3 seconds from stand-still to 100 km/h.
The M3 Coupe-Cabrio completes the BMW M3 line-up and should costs approximately 72,600 Euro.
The images have been touched up by computer in order to remove a few strips of camouflage tape.

Updated: Though first pictures of the new M3 Cabrio were revealed a couple of days ago BMW still hasn’t released any official details so we have to rely on more leaked pictures and information from our German sources. Like most convertibles, the M3 Cabrio will be slower than its coupe cousin due to the extra weight of the roof and the additional reinforcement required to ensure handling remains top-notch. All up, we’re looking at between 100-200kg of extra weight. This dampens straight-line performance by around 0.5 seconds – the coupe will hit 100km/h in 4.8s versus the Cabrio at 5.3s.

Previous: To some, the heavier and less rigid Cabrio version of the potent M3 may be a poser’s car, but BMW’s engineers are sure to have worked hard to make the drop-top every bit as tough as its Coupe sibling. Numerous prototypes have been doing the hard yards around the Nürburgring in preparation for the car’s launch mid-way though the year and we can reveal to you now the final version of the car thanks to the premature release of several official images today.

Like the M3 Coupe, the Cabrio version features the same aggressive front bar, vented bonnet, wider fenders and quad tailpipe arrangement. Beneath the hood is the same 420hp 4.0L V8 but acceleration figures will be slightly down on the coupe due to the added weight of the folding hardtop and body strengthening.

The car isn’t set to make its official debut until Geneva’s Motor Show in March, at which point BMW is also tipped to reveal its new seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Dubbed the ‘M DKG,’ the new gearbox is likely to be quicker than the manual in the 0-60mph sprint but we’ll have to wait a couple of more months until official test results are released.
