I think BMW really did a good job limiting the new car to only 40kg over the last one considering more power, more features and I am sure better safety.

E46 M3 = 5.2 s
E92 M3 = 4.8 s
Sport Auto did 4,8 s in cold weather with the E46 M3. They also did 4,8 s with the E46 M3 SMG... And AMuS did 4,8 s once... And those were european cars.
