I´m sure that power output over 450 HP is possible,if not even nessesary IMO.And I´m quite sure that new CSL will be more demanding on service intervals. But,honesty, who cares if it will deliver performance, right?

Erm, those who'd pay big amount of money for their car would care actually if their car needs engine replacement after let's say 100,000 km...

I dont think BMW will add to many horses on this car, no more than 440hp.

I'm totally with you on that one andreas. I think some of you are getting a bit too much optimistic with 450hp and 480hp.

Well,I didn´t meant CSL´s engine would need an replacement after 100k kilometers on the clock, but only that would need some more attention that regular version.Do you honestly think that Ferrari new F430 Scuderia or GT 2 Porsche has the same mileage ability as regular versions ?Well,I dont think so .

When the M3 still had to be released, many GCZ members were dreaming about figures ranging from 440-460 HP. It turned out to be 420 HP.

My prediction is that it will have 440 HP with a weight saving of around 100 kg (as the carbon roof is standard already). Pretty conservative numbers, but the difference in HP between the previous CSL and standard M3 wasn't that big either.

BMW will not be able to get away with Ferrari style maintenance costs and/or service cycles. Let's face it, its still a BMW... no matter how fast it becomes.

Modena and München are still different stories.

Maybe so,but how things are progressing in last few years it seems that BMW,MB and Audi are more and more in Ferraris and Porsches territory..And they all mean bussines.Looks like there will be no more big differences among those carmakers in the near future.Ok,I´m not saying it will be the same thing to own Ferrari or,lets say,BMW but it will be a close call to chose.Especially in this particular segment where, lets be honest, car cost isn´t main thing to worry about IMO .Prices have allready gone far to high by any standards,Just look how much more old CSL costs compared to standard car .

Well we don't know what BMW is going to do. If they keep it a 4.0 liter engine, 440 hp sounds like a good deal for the CSL, if it's around 100 kg lighter too. Then we will have 110 hp/liter. Pretty good for the V8 I'd say.

However, if BMW decides to make the engine a 4.2 liter or something like that, we will have to see at least 460 hp, for around 110 hp/liter again.

The E46 M3 CSL has 112 hp/liter

Edit for the current V8 4.0;

450 hp = 112 hp/liter
480 hp = 120 hp/liter <----- not in our wildest dreams sadly

Re: Your predictions on the upcoming M3 V8 CSL - 08-02-2007, 10:18 PM

remember they are already reving up to 8400 rpm to get that power-and if you think its going to be more torque as well then the displacement will have to increase....

also its believed the the M6 csl will have another .5 litre increase in bohr/strokes-so increasing displacemnt may be necessary...unless of course you make rev to 9000 rpm....

nevertheless, im stoked about this car.
