Well the problem is that unlike previously, they need to make the M3 so it can be brought over to the states. The US is (or was) a huge market for the M3, and there are more than enough people who modify the crap out of their M3. It wouldn't be hard to assume that many of those might also be interested in the CSL. There is nothing stopping them from making money on it.

I have always thought the CSL is is not exactly "mass production" but has a limited number that they sell? or am i wrong?

Could it be that they can't find enough weight savings to justify? The problem is they might make a CSL and end up slower than a standard M3 tuned/modified...
