I'm glad the new iDrive won't have to wait until the next gen 3er to make an appearance.

Wow that looks freaking amazing....why one would say this is boring is beyond me. I mean, look at the difference with the pre-facelifted version in BMer's post! Pretty big I'd say, and much better looking imho

Great move by BMW to put the new iDrive straight on the 3er. That'll be one of the things to make a difference again in this highly competitive segment (and with the brand new A4 and C)

I Drive simplified finally. Now BMW's following after Audi with sub-menu's in the form of buttons surrounding the clickwheel, a far m ore intuitive and workable idea.

The entire industry needs to cut to the chase and accept that touch-screen is the manififest destiny for automotive telematics.

Eventually, this will be achieved with two screens - one for display, and another for input. Completely feasible from a cost point of view just a few years from now.

Touch screens are great but require you to take attention off the road and remove your hand from the steering wheel.

???

Only few "direct access" / "shortcut" feature buttons have been added. For the most frequently used features - which will still be accessible via menu tree as well.

More important for the new user interface solution are the 2 new function buttons: >>BACK<< and >>OPTION<<

My needs: more programmable function / feature buttons (like eg. the "diamond" / "star" button), or even better:

a special "programmable shortcut menu" (with a dedicated access button on a steering wheel) where you can put some most frequently used functions, features, presets etc. Cell phones have usually such a feature.

Hmm, rear lights look like the X5 ones, with an X6 touch, wider and sportier. also the rear seems to be wider and not so rounded like the pre-FL one.

EnI,

Will the new iDrive system make it to the facelift before sales of the 7 begin and will it also have a hard drive based system versus the current DVD navigation.
I am hoping for a hard drive system, DVD is great for updating but it is much faster with a hard disk, and allows for the uploading of other items.... like music!
I hope BMW does not put it off too long, since the A4 will have MMI!
-Best of luck!
