The Germans already use high and ultra-high strength steel since ages... BMW can't change the type of metal used in the car, it would be too costly, needing exepensive testings including crashtest, thinking all the car again. It is for the platform modification.

But I read somewhere that the soon to come C-Class "Fuel Economy" managed to save 40 or 50kgs with a new technology for the windshield, don't know if it's true...

What changes will the facelift bring to the 3 series... I hope some significant changes to make it more visually appealing

Yup, this is certainly an important requirement given the dead-hot competition with the new Audi A4 and MB C-class.

Here's my minimalistic wish list:

1.) more power (at least for 328s) but better mileage
2.) improved rear taillights (preferably LEDs--even an '08 Toyota Camry has them!) and LED headlights
3.) improved interior (make it more sophisticated yet simple)
4.) more standard features (bluetooth, intelligent key etc.)
5.) X-drive -- not sure how good this is, but Audi's Quattro constantly gets all the laurels
6.) not sure if the wheelbase can be changed significantly, but all the cars in this category are growing "bigger"

Any other realistic thoughts?

Mate, facelifts on BMWs aren't as comprehensives as you've listed. The most they'll change are the headlights, bumpers and tailights. In terms of the interior, the most they will do is improve the quality of the materials. The E90 is a very fine car as it is (i own happen to own one) and the car's engineering is more than adequate in competing with the new C-class and A4.

1.) Will happen
2.) Will happen
3.) will happen
4.) will happen
5.) xDrive is perfectly fine. Maybe they'll add Dynamic Performance Control in the future.
6.) Will not happen

No offense to you my friend, if E90 wants to stay ahead in the race and maintain the lead, it certainly has to take this challenge more seriously rather than being a bit complacent. I know E90 is a fine car in many respects, but others are also getting there.

Nonetheless, you wont see a new designed interior, just some small changes and better interior materials. Only exterior changes will be changed front bumper and LEDs here and there and maybe a new bonnet. And a few new exterior colours.
Its too expensive to do any radical changes on a current car.

Come on guys, Scott, anyone. . . . . There has been no posts here since 7th December. Does ANYONE have ANY info, even if it's without pics, of the upcoming facelift?
