Why not ? Oh…I know : ) It would be against the M “philosophy” ! I still think that sooner or later we will see a turbo charged engine from the M division. BMW has a great marketing opportunity do bring back some racing history. They had a great turbo charged F1 engine in the 80’s.
There are rumors that turbo might make a come back in Formula 1. If that happens (considering BMW’s long term commitment to F1 now) we will see a turbo charged M engine...again.
Personally I would like to have 480-500 hp @ 6500 rpm than 420 @ 8400 rpm. I won’t even talk about torque figures.

You love impressive power and torque figures and i understand your wishes but an engine is not only raw numbers, it's also refinement and pleasure wich for me belongs with NA engines and this is why I admire The M house. So yes, a turbo for me is in complete contrast with M philosophy, no matter what the f**** marketing says.

4.0-liter V8 420Hp, 400Nm of torque, maximum engine speed 8,300 rpm, want’ more? Get this; BMW’s new M5 V10 derived 4.0 V8 is not only 77Hp stronger than the straight-six fitted in the current M3 but most importantly weighing in at a mere 202 kg or 445 lb, its 15 kg or 33 lb lighter than the 3.2-liter six-cylinder power unit! Before you continue below to see the full details on the upcoming E92 M3's V8 engine, we’d advise you to check out the video above if you haven't done so yet. It includes a 9min long MP3 soundtrack from the BMW M3 V8 press kit we obtained in Germany dressed with still shots featuring the engine and its components. Sounds quiet promising doesn’t it

I completely agree with you.
Horsepower is always better if you dont have to rev to the heavans to achieve it. The more instantaneous the better and with dual turbos you get little to no lag..
Shonguiz, you dont think the N54 engine is refined?? Its more refined than the N52-power delievery is better, sound is better, mpg is just as good...There doesnt seem to be any down sides to turbo charging...

Thank you!
I was going to give the N54 as an example also! It seems to deliver its power very well throughout its RPM range and the turbo lag is very little. When I said "a mild turbo job" I meant the new twin turbo method BMW used on the N54.

It's refined, all the BMW engines are refined

We don't have the same definition of engine refinement:
1/ Sound: No way for me to find the sound of the N54 better than sound of N52, You may be love the "vroum vroum" of Big american V8, but personnaly i love the bavarian concerto.
2/ Of course you will find the power delevery of N54 better since you are a turbo fan, but if you absolutely want torque and power at low revs, why not directly picking a diesel ? In my case, the absolute pleasure comes from power at high revs, push and feel the real fear.
