I think it is ergonomically well thought, although I will question some of the implementation style.
I would love see the Nav screen hump better integrated like the X5.
I would love to see the driver door controls a bit closer.
The cup holders seem to an after-thought, perhaps adopt the X5 position.
I would not mind having the gear lever and IDrive controller moved forward by 6 inches to make using the controller more natural.
Even with these little complains, I still love the simplified layout.
I think the interior is a classic example of "less is more".

I guess your right! Now that I think about it, it's best in class interior.

I am neither saying it is the best nor the worst in class. I just like the spartan interior of the car. All the controls are there at your finger tips- it is ergonomically laid out in my limited opinion.
