Lexus sure "fools" a lot of people with their hybrids (Toyota too). It's not uncommon to have people tell me that driving a hybrid is "saving the planet" because "they're so fuel efficient".
Then when I explain to them how the hybrid system works and how a Lexus LS600h is a gas-guzzler outside of the city, the response I get is usually something like:
"No, that's impossible. It's a hybrid."
Lexus markets their hybrids as
fuel-efficient and
low emission cars in Germany. They're being honest with the low emission part, but they're hiding a major factor when they talk about fuel economy. Never once in their ads do they talk about how the hybrid is at an advantage in urban driving. They're trying to market the car as an all-round fuel-efficient vehicle. Um, NO.
The Aurion looks pretty good though. Much more interesting and sportier than the Camry.
