Volkswagen’s updated Polo hatch is due to bow in towards the end of the year as a 2009 model and will initially be launched in both three and five-door hatch variants. Next year, VW is tipped to expand the Polo range by introducing a new - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER, long-wheelbase MPV and a possible SUV model or ‘Cross Polo’.

The next-gen Polo will also get VW’s new low-cost six-seed DSG and when combined with an efficient BlueMotion turbodiesel should deliver a mileage figure in excess of 60mpg. New to the model family will be a mild hybrid option with regenerative braking technology and electronically controlled components. Carrying over from the current lineup will be a performance GTI model, possibly featuring VW’s brilliant 125kW 1.4L TSI engine.
