I re-read the 2006 COTY issue last night and the judges pretty much said although the W221 is the best car there, they feel MB hasn't make significant progress with the new S-class, and it doesn't help when it is the most expensive car in its segment. Basically they didn't think the S-class is worth $30k more than the Audi A8, which was one of the finalist the year before that.

This award will do wonders for the C-class and its local sales, I bet the 3-month waiting list for the C-class will only get longer.
The S-class should haved walked away with the title easily. Does the C really move the game on that much? Does the C really represent excellent value against the competition? No, the C is not perfect but it's a truly excellent allrounder, just like the S-class, which still set a new benchmark for LUXURY cars. At the end of the day its because Holden has Wheels in their pocket. Plain and Simple.
