It uses a whole Benz platform, a W124 chassis under license from Mercedes to be precise, and Benz motor/gearboxes.
It was only allowed on local markets not ot compete with the Mercedes.
Seems this has changed.

Anyway, the old Chairman looked like a W140 Benz, but a FL gave it an American-looking rear.
