R8 launch in Singapore - 11-24-2007, 04:40 AM

I had my doubts about the looks of the car. In photos it looked too tall and too short. It had a broken silhouette which was eccentuated by the sideblade. In other words, it looks just like a large TT.

But last night all of that was put to rest. This car looks amazing. Especially in white. The haunchy shoulders make the car very wide, and the side blade is a feature you wouldn't even notice. It's a little like the C-Class steering wheel, you notice it stinks in the photos, but in real life it doesn't really matter. The car, holistically, looks like a true supercar and far more than how much it costs. Given the sexy engine bay and that front (again: that front!), this car would have no problems selling. In Singapore they've already sold more than 30, and mind you each of those here costs more than half a million dollars.

The interior feels plush and I should say ordinary. But I mean that in a good way because it's so useable and so friendly. I don't know why but in the R8 I get an air of familiarity and comfort, maybe it's because I'm used to the A8's interior. It's roomy and comfortable, very very spacious and I just love it. One thing though, I didn't see any ambient LED lights on the doors, which is one of my favourite features of the A6 and A8. I hope they didn't overlook that for the R8.

Anyway, I'll let the photos do the talking... All R8 haters, you've got to see the car in real life. It'll change your opinion.

The location

Notice the subtle white LED lighting paying homage to the R8

It was just like a clubbing party... They served steak, cavier, and the lot...

The dinner menu

No prizes for guessing what this is

The ****king beauty, in white

The designer of the R8 showing us how he derived his design from the ur-quattro and R10 TDI

Lighting was poor so bear with me

No carbon sigma option; a 13,000 dollar one

check out the metallic brochure! Got that from Perth

I have some videos to upload as well. Meanwhile, you guys feel free to ask me anything about this car. I'm sold! The waiting list is 6 months to a year, it's better to get a used one.
