With 100+ bucks a barrel for oil a virtual certainty, I think that the USA is going to start becoming a bit more obsessed with lighter, more economical performance cars and less obsessed with cubic inches. The days of lazy, uneconomical V8s are numbered.
I think that a cheaper, lighter, more economical 3.0TT S4 is a great idea for Audi if it is priced within a few grand of the 335i Sedan. The V8 S5 has been met with a lukewarm reception. 330hp may be less power than the last S4 but it will be lighter and faster and will almost certainly sell more units.
I don't think that Audi are particularly concerned with the US market anyway, relative to other growth markets, especially at $1.50 per Euro. BMWs larger US presence has not been doing their share price any favours. Expect to see even longer delays for US launches of European models in future.
