I just read the test from Autobild.de. They do say that the A4 1.8 TFSI comes close to the 3er Sedan but they also say this (translated with Babelfish):

Result: The A4 continues to push out the experiencable borders of the front wheel drive again a piece. But: It is and remains a fronttriebler, as our low exposes Felisa already soon. There AUDI knew the front axle so far forward, the engine downward moves - if it uphill fast by zigzags goes, if the bitumen becomes damp, then scharrt the circle-internal tire again to stop. Then the A4 pushes over the front wheels to the edge of curve and betrays the deficiency of the long wheel base: AUDI did not largepull a leichtfuessigen dancer there. Sportiest sedan? Probably rather marketing poetry - at least with the basis model. Well, the stronger, sportier and more expensive A4 can perhaps correct that later.

Anyway, I think FWD A4 makes perfectly sense but it's the A5 that I'd rather see only with quattro.
