BMW are very serious here. For the next gen of Z4, Z8 & 6er cabrio folding hardtops are seriously considered. And will make it into production - except in case something really goes wrong (eg. if driving dynamics - especially in M variants - is affected too much).
So only low-end models (Z2 & 1er cabrio) will get canvas, while other models are (planned) to get folding hardtops.

MB surely wouldn't let BMW get away with being the only Hardtop offering.
Next generation CLK HAS to have one.
