Very impressive numbers for the 335i. Road & Track is my favourite North American magazine for performance numbers because they are consistent in reporting their results (they always do a 700ft slalom run which is a much better indicator of actual handling than a skidpad number).
Here are numbers for comparable cars from the same magazine.
IS350/G35/335i/S4/M3/C55
0-60mph (s): 4.9/5.4/5.0/5.4/5.0/5.0
0-100mph (s): 12.7/13.5/12.3/13.6/12.0/11.9
1/4mile (s@mph): 13.5@103.1/13.9@101.8/13.5@104.5/13.9@101.2/13.5@105.8/13.5@106.6
skidpad (g): 0.84/0.88/0.90/0.86/0.87/0.86
700ft slalom (mph): 66.7/65.5/68.7/65.8/68.3/67.6
It takes the previous generation M3/C55 to match/come close to the performance of the current 335i, and it's only at higher speeds where the M3/C55 can pull away. It kills the S4 in everyway. And the IS350 is pretty damn good too. Numbers don't lie as much as people's personal biases.
Of course, all of these acceleration numbers were done with high rpm launches for the manual transmission cars, whereas the automatic IS350 and C55 are just press and go. Keep that in mind for everyday street encounters. |
