BMW North America is responding to the market dynamics.
Petrol is relatively cheap in North America when compared to Europe, so the consumers like me are hungry for Power, and the competition is responding.
To me it makes sense having the same powerplant for both the 3 & 5 series excluding the 550i.
They may even extend this to both the X3 and the X5
If well implemented, the strategy may improve customer service as well.Think about training of the technicians, well you don't have to worry there are fewer engines in the North American fleet(US especially), so you will have a competent technical force(hopefully) at the dealerships.
