From the perspective of somebody living in 2002, there would be a "fix" needed. That's what happened with the 7er. However, the public's perceptions changed as the new BMW style became accepted, and now the idiosyncrasies of the 6er are viewed by many as a positive thing (specifically the rear and "eyebrow" lights).
