Explanation: I arrived in South Africa on Oct 30th 1974 (32 years ago a few days from now) and left in April 1986 for the US. So, I had almost 12 years to hear it all the time and I also learnt a bit myself in the process. I married someone from the Vrystaat 6 months after arriving in SA, so that helped.
BTW, Since I see you are from JHB I'll just mention this too: I lived in the Johannesburg area between Jan 1977 till May 1980. Worked at Power Steel in Wadeville and Genrec in Germiston, with time at the Sasol II plant while with Genrec. I was visiting in JHB in March 2004 - the place has grown like crazy
