Cars like the FL E46 Coupe/Cabrio, 6 Series and 7 Series, have full LED tailights where applying the brakes activates a set of LEDs that illuminate together.

Celis LEDs can be found on the entire BMW range (except E90 and E60), and comprise a set of tubular strips- powered by LEDs- that are placed horizontally across the width of the tailights.

Just to add to that. CELIS were first introduced on the E39 facelift. To my knowledge, BMW is the only company to implement them, and I still think the effect is the coolest thing since sliced bread.

However, Audi is doing quite nicely too lately, with the R8 (first car in the world that can be orded with all the lights 100% LEDs) and the A6 Avant...

I think it's an acquired taste; looks good directly under the R8's headlights, but a bit tacky on the S6 sitting in the bumper. Personally I think it would take some pretty creative designing to make the use of LED's in the headlight design work.
