Tell that to Porsche. Find me in the BMW dictionary where motorsport means motorsport engines. As long as BMW's M division has its hand on it, its good enough for me.

Oh that csl sound that s an piece of art.

Try to get that with a turbo. Then the throttle response of the CSL it was fantastic.

I had the oppertunity to drive the csl more than once.

If i could buy that car new now i would buy it.

1 serie s coupe ///M with 3.0i atmo 8000 rpm with csl airbox that s all i want.

If it s turbo no problem i keep my M3 it s easy the money stays where it is then and certainly not going to bmw with turbo s.
BMW motorsports GmbH when all it did was motor sports (before it became M GmbH and started doing street cars and later 4000 lb convertibles) dabbled a lot in turbo engines including 750 HP Group 5 CSL monster. Not to mention the most powerful F1 engine to date.

As for turbo engines not being suitable, just look at winning cars in Le Mans, you will find more turbo cars than NA cars. Not to mention WRC. Turbo engines even dominated NA engines in F1 for the short time they allowed both. It is okay to prefer NA engines. I also do. They have a lot of qualities that are amiss from turbo engines. But to propagate some myth that turbo engines are not suitable for motor sports is just bs.

yeah sunny youre right but.

i like to balance the car with throttle on under and oversteer midcorner that s such a nice thing to do with cars. That s a big thing what sets me to buying a new car. On race track a atmo engine is lot more satisfying than a turbo engine. If you steer the car with throttle.

Piquet said once in the turbo era i only give throttle when the car is in a straight line. Oncontrolable midcorner.

also in a 135i it s very difficult to balance the car midcorner with throttle. I had one and sold it because of it.

I have had subaru s and evo s i know what turbo cars are with 4wd with turbo kick it s no big problem the driving style is different. But with rwd and lsd an atmo is more liniar so much nicer to balance. I know for sure they know it aswel at bmw ///M

Porsche still makes high rev atmo s.

It would just be perfect if ///M made just one high rev atmo in there line up. Just one. Also for future trackday enthusiasts.

Yea, Ad, I get where you are coming from. A good NA unit is has more linear throttle response. And is definitely more fun to drive. I was just taking exception to any implication that turbo engines are not suited for motor sports (which at a professional level puts no emphasis on the fun factor - just winning).

AdvEvo you really know what a driver need and where the fun escalates to maximum (midcorner) NA, lsd and RWD are a must for me and if we get what we've dreamed for this time it will be the best present BMW can give us enthusiasts.

In many ways, racing at a professional level means that the cost of making the engine durable is worth taking. I have seen quite a few concerns regarding turboed engines from BMW and reliability on track. But, lets not forget that the 35i was BMW:s first attempt at this (in a long time) and if an M car (now, this particular car will not wear the M badge, that is reserved for other types of cars) is supposed to wear the badge with pride, the engine should not fry just because of some hot laps on a track in the summer.

I'm with you on this, and I do believe (hope?) that BMW will definitely deliver on this since Scott said that this is a un-CSL CSL.
