The AE86 is pure happiness but it is utter periphery here in Europe. Only die-hard enthusiasts even knows of that old Corolla while the 2002 is something even my mom knows about.

But Europe isn't the end all be all of motoring now is it. The AE86 is Huge in the US, especially with the intro of Drifting out here. And it has ALWAYS been huge in Japan. Lets not forget all the drifting fanatics around the world. The AE86 goes hand in hand when drifting is mentioned. If they can successfully bring out the new Toybaru Coupe, then believe me the flood gates will open for the new 240 from Nissan and also RX-7 from Mazda. If those cars become available, and are RWD and cheap (under 20K) then BMW will have pretty hard time justifying their car by saying "But it's premium."

Either way, I want Scotts answer to this because it is BMW's strategy to say that they will offer something brand new when that's been done before and someone else has also announced it before them to boot.

The AE86 is huge here too, and cheap... however, it is no better than a Volvo 240 when it comes to drifting, really, but it has some degree of myth about it!

Actually, it's MUCH better than the Volvo and FAR more reliable. The other thing is, this car isn't Mythical man, it's F__king legendary. Download some of the Touge Battles with Keiichi Tsuchiya, aka DriftKing, driving his AE86 vs. some of the ridiculously tuned monsters and it still destroys them. Even that 4AGE engine in it was tuned to perfection. The crazy thing is that KT's TRD AE86 pulls around 200-250hp and revs around 10K (some say even 12K) and wieghs only 900kg.

Now, I'd love to see the ///M Baby Bimmer hit that target. 900Kg, LSD and around 200hp (or more). I'd buy that with the quickness.

BTW...here is a video of KT's car.

Keiichi Tsuchiya's TRD AE86

The guys I know of who uses AE86:s does not agree regarding the reliability, at least not in standard form. But that could just as well be down to them thinking that the standard car could be used the same way the AE86 is used in those movies on the internet...

That's with any car. If you try to drift any stock car as hard as drifters use theirs, your car will break down VERY quickly. My M3 was modified when I drifted. Also, my buddies who got me into drifting had Japanese Monsters (Supra, RX-7, 240SX-S15conversion and Kouki)

Hey, everything I'm talking about has to do with the 1er mentioned by Scott. I'm just trying to bring light to the fact that it's been done before and isn't anything "Brand New".
