How about an M-fettled 135i three door hatch with a sequential twin-turbo pushing out 265 kW and 450 Nm replete with flared wheel arches, roof spoiler and twin, single outlet, exhausts firing from a rear diffuser?
Huh! What the...?! [Wakes up, smells badly stale coffee]

This "mule" is running the platform for the 1er but it is not four wheel drive.
Two exhausts give the biggest clue . It is a development prototype for just that development, just as this previous car was also the base for the 1er Coupe as was several 1er hatchbacks.
This is Scott commenting a 1-series mule in another tread.
I want to guess a pure M1, but I doubt it. Much more likely some kind of semi-hybrid sports model... this is BMW after all.
