German Car Zone

We picked up the car after lunch. My sister was so nervous and excited, I had to drive it down for her. We picked up my parents and went for a 20 minute joyride with the car. I couldn't really "drive it" because my old folks in the back wanted to be driven as if they were seated in a Maybach.

Either way, this is one sweet car! Here are some pictures I snapped when we brought it to the garage where my old Mercedes 300SE is stored. The BMW went in, the Mercedes went out and has to spend the night in the rain!

The 4-cylinder engine has a nice aggressive sound to it and reponds nicely to input. The automatic works discreetly in the background and is responsive in manumatic mode. The real review and testdrive will come on Thursday when I am driving my sister up to Bruchsal with the car. It's basically a 4-hour drive, 90% on the Autobahn and 10% on state and country roads. The salesman at BMW, Mr. Meindl said the engine is already broken in so the car can be driven "as you please". Sounds good? Until Thursday then!

When I was at Mercedes-Benz during the summer of 2005, they did the same thing for people picking up their new Benz. Must be a tradition here I didn't know about...

I will post a comprehensive review when I come back from Bruchsal. I'm staying at my sister's place for a week and we'll be driving around in it.

By the way, when we picked up the car from BMW, it only had 2 km on the odometer!

Great pictures Christian, this colour looks fantastic on the 1er, I wonder why I haven't seen any in it. Your sister must be very pleased with the car.

The driving impressions so far are very positive. It's sporty and comfortable too. A little cramped in the back, but upfront it's quite spacious for a 6'4" giant like me. The steering feedback is excellent, light but direct and sporty in feel.
