Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

So in the pics and videos that we're seeing, I think that's the M-pac. Where is the M wheel, knob, footrest, and door sills? Haven't seen any pics of that yet.

Interesting that the M pac doesn't include foglights... Are they available as an option? Will the M pac have shadowline trim available? I wonder why the delay on Alpine white?

Press pics & videos show 135i in Sedona Red color.

Standard 135i features kind a special yet standard Performance package including: M-sport chassis with special setting, ultra-performance brakes, ultra-performance throttle setting, DSC+ functions, EDL, M-Sport aerodynamic body kit, chromed exterior trim, chromed kidney grill bars, sports seats, sports steering wheel.

While the ordering guide says regular M-Sport package is optional & analog to hatch M-Sport package (incl. M-Sport chassis settings, M-sport aerodynamic body kit, M-sport sport steering wheel, M-sport stick, sports seats & all the regular M-Sport interior & exterior trims eg. Shadow Line, Anthracite, M-logos, etc) .

Regarding foglights: standard 135i comes without them. They are even not mentioned as an option. While eg. hatch specific M-Sport package includes fog lights ... so if it is really analog ...

So - I guess - if you order M-Sport package with 135i you only get interior & exterior M Sport trim + M Rims extra on standard 135i package.

I also guess "no-fog-lights" feature is 135i specific due a need for a larger air intake (for engine & brakes cooling).

Regarding Alpine White delay: I have no idea.

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

I'm confused. The UK press release gave me the feeling that the 135i come standard w/ the M-sport pkg. See copy and paste below.

The BMW 120d Coupé will be available in ES, SE and M Sport guises, while the 123d Coupé will be offered in SE and M Sport and the 135i Coupé just as an M Sport. M Sport raises the specification bar by including 17-inch light alloy wheels on the 120d and 123d Coupé but unique 18-inch light alloy wheels on the 135i Coupé, M Aerodynamic package, M Sports suspension, Sports seats, High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, M leather steering wheel, M designation door sills and Anthracite headlining.

The 135i I see in the photos have the chrome exterior trim and and the interior pics don't have M anything. Funny thing is I tried to go to a dealer here yesterday and I forgot I wasn't in the US anymore, got there around 3 something in the afternoon (15:00), they'd been closed for 2 hours.

I prefer the more understated look of the shadowline trim.

And I love the look of the 1 series M sport knob. Hopefully its nicely weighted. I like that it doesn't look cool or hot to the touch in bad weather.

Is M-DCT (DSG) type tranny going to be available in the later production after 3/08? Perhaps on M1? If M-DCT is available for 135i, it should bring 0-62mph in 5.0 sec range.

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

I know you guys are saying this, but I can't believe that there's coming an M1 within the next couple of years.
To me the 135i looks already like the "almost an M"-Version of the 1 Coupe (just like last generation X5 4.8is was).
M aerodynamics, M suspension, gourney flap, no fog lights, LSD "light"...
I could only imagine that there may be an M1 with a LCI in about four years...but how long will this car based on E87/82 be built?

Best regards, south

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

New here, nice forum!

These new high-res PR photos of the coupe ameliorate some of my concerns about the new design I've discussed on bmwaddicts, but not all of them - and they add a few of their own. Problem areas with the 1 coupe as I see it:
The front lights - the total light area exceeds that needed for the high and low beam headlamps by far too much on the outer edges. I know room is needed for the turn signals, but compare to the 335i coupe, where this extra area is smaller and much better proportioned. The end result in the 1 coupe is a weird bugeyed look that detracts from the car's attempts to appear aggressive.

The rear lip spoiler - this is a tacky, cheesy add-on that looks like it was ported over from a late-90's Hyundai Elantra with a "sport" package. Shame on BMW for going cheap and not molding this lip into the trunk lid.

The roofline - look, BMW, we all know the back seats are totally useless for anyone over 5' tall due to the 2" of knee room back there, so let's stop playing pretend, forget about providing headroom to accomodate a 6 footer in the back and give us a nice sloping roofline like the 3 coupe has, instead of this domed bulge that belongs on a sedan and detracts seriously from the 1's sports-oriented look.

Wheels - the very open design of the rims would be great - if we didn't have to look at those honking-big brake rotors behind them. The shine from those rotors totally destroys the appeal of the rims here. The high visibility of the rotors together with the tacked-on spoiler give the car a Euro-ricer look which is really at variance with BMW's design direction. Hopefully there will be an option for wheels with better rotor coverage.
