We all know that the 135i has explosive potential - but maybe BMW thinks it would be eating its own lunch and disrupting the percieved hierarchy of their product range if they let the "lowly" 1er run circles around its more expensive offerings.
Hopefully they won't choke the potential of the car, but they certainly won't put on paper that it is faster than a 335i. Too much risk of cannibalizing big brothers sales.

Well hey, I'm still holding on to the hope that the 135i will be priced and packaged low enough to make it an appealing alternative to the 3er coupe. BMW's turbo engine is the belle of the ball, and it could make for one hell of a sport compact.

However, my gut tells me that an OTD price on the 135i that's equipped with basic amenities is only going have a $7,000 gap between a similar 3er coupe.

Anyways we'll see! Sure, I'm prematurely bitching, but I certainly don't want everybody to get their hopes up for this being the "messiah BMW."
Well, a $7000 gap from 335 would put base price price for the 135 at $33K and I think that would be fantastic value. But I guess any discussion on the value before we know the official price is moot.

I don't know what you mean by "messiah BMW", but if you mean from a sales pov, no, it won't be. But it definitely has potential to appeal to the enthusiast crowd.

Also happy to see that BMW kept the engine at the 306HP and didn't play the marketing game others do and detune the engine - not that it would have mattered, people would have chipped it and got back that and more anyway.

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

I'm certain the 135i won't in any way hurt the 335i even if it quicker. It is after all a smaller car so one would expect it to be niffty, that's what hatchbacks(it is after all based on the 1er) are all about.
Further the cars are very distinct. The 1er coupe has a boy racers image while the 3er coupe is a proper luxury cars with a long list of options, usable backseat, better quality than the 1er, better designed, more mature and much more prestigious.

I'll take the 1er then.

No need for anything else.

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

E82 press material is on mediapool.bmw since Friday I was told.

So ...

It looks like some representatives & local branches (bmw UK) broke the embargo before it ended - just like in FL E60 / 61 case when info was released by dealers & local branches 1 day before embargo expired.

I can't access the press release to see when embargo ends, yet I guess it is a matter of hours.

Re: BMW 1-Series Coupe Official Press Release

I'll wait until this thing is drivable before I make a judgement whether I would consider this over the 335. But what I will say is this, this car is ugly compared to the 3er. keep that in mind.
