Suit you sir, suit you...

Ok, this is my take on this:

a) I can't decide whether to call you Grandma or Evel Knievel.
b) You've been spending too much time on deserted airfields racing M5's and M6's.
c) you don't see a correlation between 0-100 km/h performance (second gear is second gear) and slow corner acceleration performance
d) you don't acknowledge that best sense of accelerative G is in the lower gears - in the higher acceleration speeds only true super-performers will push you back in your seat. The sense of acceleration is diminished the faster you go...

But hey, it's all in good fun. I say accelerometer, you say speedometer...

No, I'm talking about a personal experience and what kind of driving I have been doing my 12 years with a drivers-license. I will never base my car purchase on how fast that car travel from zero to 100km/h, if one car is 0.8 seconds faster to 100km/h than the other car Im choosing between doesnt mean the car with the fastest acceleration is going to be my final choice.
A-D are all wrong options...I'm just unpredictable!

This is a very fair and rational point Just_me and I commend you for it.

How about checking a page back, Mr. Boruvka...?

Maybe you know that already, Martin; will it be possible with my car? Honestly, never paid attention on that...

Aw freekin' murder - sorry Tyc, must've missed that question.

In SA we don't get a 535d because of our sizeable high altitude market. But I'd still be surprised if your master blaster makes a hundred in 2nd gear. 80 or 90 km/h is about max for your car with the Steptronic auto 'box in 2nd.

I stand to be (pleasantly) corrected.

Re: BMW 123d: 201hp twin-turbo diesel - 54.3mpg

It's a 535d, Martin... You're getting older indeed... j/k...

I think i recall that it goes in third gear around 85-90 km/h, but i'm not 100% sure.

I will try though... It's very hot and sunny day and when i get my tires on right temperature, i'll give it a try...

edit: aaaarrrgh, i wanted to joke a little...

I've done 50mph in second gear in my diesel powered golf, but that was proper red lining it!

For all you km guys, that's 80.4672 km/h!

Re: BMW 123d: 201hp twin-turbo diesel - 54.3mpg

Outstanding fuel consumption

In the model year 2008, the BMW 1 Series is extended to include a fascinating body variation. There are three new BMW 1 Series engines which celebrate their premiere in the model year 2008. For the first time in the model year 2008, the new 4-cylinder diesel engine with Variable Twin Turbo is available both for the 5 and 3-door models. The 150 kW/204 bhp power unit gives the BMW 123d a unique status in a number of disciplines. The new model has a particular fascination due to its degree of pulling power, which is unique within its segment, and it also has outstanding fuel consumption levels. The 5-door and 3-door models make do with 5.2 litres of diesel for 100 kilometres in the EU test cycle. The CO2 level of the BMW 123d is 138 g per kilometre.

With these figures, the new BMW 123d symbolises the spirit and also the potential of the development strategy BMW EfficientDynamics in a particularly striking manner. Its engine is the world's first all-aluminium diesel power unit to deliver an output of over 100 bhp. At the same time, the BMW 123d is the first large-series vehicle over 200 bhp whose CO2 output is below the 140 g level.
